Echoes of Humanity
Requires Java LoaderPersistent people. Working settlements. Company on the road. Echoes of Humanity is the most complete native NPC living-world system for Project Zomboid Build 42 — not disposable cell encounters that vanish when you leave.
Living world
Survivors keep needs, supplies, relationships and history across play. Visible characters belong to a longer-lived population.
Ten factions
Optional zero-point Faction origins at character creation. Standing, personal reputation and diplomacy stay separate systems.
Companions with jobs
Recruit friends and partners who remember you — fetch and deliver, gather wood, barricade windows, defend and patrol, using real finite supplies.
Communities & outposts
Claim resource sites, found your own camp, and share the map with survivor communities that work, keep watch, rest and recruit.
Stories, radio & voices
Thirteen local human situations with a journal, three voiced radio programmes and bundled offline voice clips. Talk and trade need no API key; optional AI chat stays bounded to personal standing.
Built to integrate
Micro-faction community creator, NSA companion rest, a ClearView faction-summary window, and campaign API 3 for Faded Field Operations.
What's new in 0.21.2
- Horse riding and carriages — optional cooperation with Last Reins of Knox 0.4.0: NPCs can ride horses and drive horse-drawn carriages through native, renewable leases, and Echoes pauses and safely restores its own movement control around them.
- Build 42.22 (0.21.0 to 0.21.2) — targets the Project Zomboid 42.22 pre-release. 0.21.1 no longer class-loads IsoWorld during plugin enable; 0.21.2 makes NPC attacks require a physically clear path, so walls, fences, closed doors, windows and gates stop direct melee and firearm hits.
- More road travel — rural survivors search farther for usable vehicles and take road journeys more often when the loaded world has real rural roads. Fuel, battery, keys, threats, population and party limits still apply.
- Safer driving — loaded road corridors, route changes, arrival progress and bounded reverse recovery guide NPC drivers; invalid destinations brake the car.
- Companion passengers — recruited companions following you can take free passenger seats in your stopped car, re-check seats when another companion boards first, and use the native seated animations.
- Native car physics — NPC motor cars get the normal native controller physics in single-player and on dedicated servers; stale driver control brakes safely, and ordinary player cars keep their normal authority path.
- The Harvest Sisters (0.19.0) — they return every in-game and real-world October 31 with melee-only hunts, distinct powers, up to ten loyal raised followers, Whimsy Weapons integration and original English/Brazilian Portuguese female voices. 0.19.0 also expanded native households, work orders, colony facilities and research, survival guidance and requested companion driving.
0.20.0 is a development release: the final motor-car case ran on a real dedicated server with two native clients over localhost. WAN play, full-world restarts and live rural traffic frequency were not measured.
A practical first evening
- Start or load your survivor — optionally pick one Faction origin.
- Open Echoes: people and promises from the world context menu and run the first-session guide and readiness check.
- Approach a friendly survivor and use Talk to learn needs and standing.
- Open the faction sidebar and Territory map layer.
- Recruit with Stay with me / appearance when eligible.
- Discover a site, clear it, build a crate, claim it in the Living World journal.
